LIU Tanzhou, Researcher at the Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS); Director of the Syntax and Semantics Research Office; Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS). Selected for the inaugural “Peiyuan Program” of CASS in 2023.
Her research interests encompass modern Chinese grammar, dialectal grammatical issues, corpus linguistics, language policy, and linguistic experimentation. She is paticularly dedicated to establishing China’s independent linguistic theoretical system. Methodologically, she honors the rich traditions of Chinese grammatical studies while emphasizing the appropriate application of contemporary syntactic theories to Chinese grammatical research.
Her monograph On Co-Referencial Apposition in Chinese was included in the Slected Works of the CASS Innovation Project. She received the 19th Lü Shuxiang Linguistics Award from CASS in 2018 and the Second Prize for the 11th Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award from CASS in 2023. In 2024, she was honored as one of the “Most Beloved Teachers by Students” in the Second “I Love My Teacher” Selection at UCASS.
